Dropbox: Demonstration

Posted by: eea07 on: April 10, 2011

Description:

This page is an outline of how to use the website.

For example how to upload an image: click on upload, choose files, then pictures for example, start upload. You will then see the page in your parent folder. You can also move your file into the already existing photos file. (If you select the photo below, dropbox will open in a new tab so you may access directly the website and see how to upload an image).

How to move a file: After you’ve uploaded your file, whatever it may be, you can  move your file into an already created folder. Click on the little right triangle, move, move to “the folder you want”, and you’re done.

How to create a folder: click on” New Folder”, name your folder, and you’re done.

How to share a folder: click on “Share a folder”, then you can either choose an already existing folder, or just create a new one, click “Share”, and you’re done, but make sure you’re folder is below 300MB especially if you have  a 2GB limit.

How to invite friends to join and get 250MB for free: go to “Account”, then “Referral Status”, click on “Invite your friends to Dropbox”, fill out their email etc…, and send the invite request. When your friend accepts your invitation, you will both be rewarded by extra 250MB for free.

Dropbox is very easy to use since it has the same saving system as any computer, laptop, and other device.

Dropbox: Background

Posted by: eea07 on: April 10, 2011

Description:

This page discusses and describes who created Dropbox (The Dropbox Team) and the technology’s history and background.

Dropbox was founded in 2007 by two MIT graduates, Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi. It is well-funded by Sequoia Capital, Accel Partners, and Amidzad. It was launched publicly in 2008. As an MIT student, Houston had trouble keeping track of his USB. As a result, he decided to create a website designed especially to save files online in order to  have access to them anywhere. Due to trademark disputes between Evenflow (Dropbox’s parent company) and Proxy, Inc., Dropbox’s official name was actually “getdropbox.com” until October 2009, when they acquired their current domain, “dropbox.com”. By January, 2010, Dropbox had more than 4 million users. Starting mid-2009, they began to release new features, through Votebox (the Dropbox team actually asks users to vote for a certain feature, and bases their decision on those votes).

Dropbox: Introduction

Posted by: eea07 on: April 10, 2011

Description:

This page discusses the web 2.0 application that I’ve chosen called: Dropbox, and explains what it does. (If you click on Dropbox, the website will open in a new tab and see the website’s video).

Dropbox is a website that syncs and stores all kinds of files: documents, pictures, videos, music, and more. This application can be installed for free, on windows, Mac, and Linux. Applicants can also download it on their Smartphones or mobile (iPhones, Android, and Blackberry). This way, users have a chance to work anywhere. Dropbox uses the Freemium financial model and its free service provides 2 GB of free online storage. Users who refer Dropbox to others can gain up to 8 GB of free storage. The service’s major competitors include Box.net, SugarSync, Mozy, and others.
